Global Care in Moldova. Among other things, a first aid course is offered at the education center in Bălţi. Instructor is retired firefighter chief Sergiu Cazacu, who is also project manager and responsible for the coordination of the aid measures in Moldova. There was also a visit to Galina on the itinerary. She fled from Odessa in Ukraine to Bălţi two years ago. As an artist, she instructs the art classes at the education center.
18.04.2024
Managing Director Beate Tohmé and project manager Marita Dieling arrived safely in the Republic of Moldova. The joy was great during their visit to the education center in Bălţi. The new rooms, which offer more space for the activities, were completed a few days earlier. The education center is a meeting point for women and children who fled from Ukraine. The goal is to improve learning quality and psychological health as well as support integration. Besides different courses in fitness, art, languages, cooking, and first aid, they also offer participation in online classes and a psychosocial help program for children.

Many Ukrainian women have fled to the Republic of Moldova. It is important that the women and their children, who live in accommodation for refugees – most of the time without the fathers – are empowered. Today, for International Women’s Day, the women will receive flowers. Traditionally, they receive them from their husbands, but most of them have stayed back in Ukraine. “It is important that the women recharge and that their resilience and well-being is strengthened”, says Project Manager Kristina

The war in Ukraine marks its second anniversary. Global Care works together with local partner organizations in Ukraine and the neighboring country Moldova. Evacuations, regular distributions of food packages for 1,000 families and reconstruction of 30 residential homes are part of the support in Ukraine. “The children are especially close to our hearts!” says Managing Director Beate Tohmé. Global Care furthers the distribution of school supplies, enables online-classes and language courses for Ukrainian children in Moldova as well as summer camps for 855 girls and boys, so they can forget their worries about the war for a moment.
We continue to help! According to the United Nations, 40 percent of people in Ukraine are in urgent need of help! Please help so that Global Care can continue to support those affected.

Milana fled from Ukraine to Moldova together with three of her children. She is one of 3,920 people who receive help from Global Care at the education center in Bălți. She had to leave behind her husband and oldest son. First they were at the front line, then they fled out of fear for their lives and are still in hiding to this day. Milana is thankful that she is safe. She collects clothing, saves food and regularly sends emergency packages from Moldova to her husband and son.

Pastor Aleksej and his family have fled to Ljuboml. There they have found accommodation in a church building that serves as a shelter for refugees. Aleksej wants to give back the help he has received. He and his wife are committed to helping: preparing meals, renovating and chopping wood for the winter.

Today, more than 300 Christmas packages, as well as a sewing machine, clothing and an ultrasound machine, are on their way in project team member Andrej’s van. He reports: “We are thankful that we made it across the border and through customs without any problems. The first packages have already been given to girls and boys in the Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donetzk regions. In Kharkiv, where needy families recently received 40 stoves as part of GLOBAL CARE winter aid, the parcels will arrive in time for Orthodox Christmas in January.”
Thank you to everyone who filled this campaign with life and who gave boys and girls in Ukraine a special moment of joy.

In the Ukrainian city Kachaly, Global Care is supporting the rebuilding of residential houses. Women and children are often on their own because their fathers are deployed in the war, and they cannot afford to repair a window, for example. A couple recounts, “We lived in our basement for six weeks. We lived and slept on the pallets, which now store our stocks like potatoes and canning jars. During one of the attacks, one half of the house was destroyed completely.”
18.10.2023
A few days ago Global Care project manager Marita Dieling returned from Ukraine. Together with Walentin and Irma Schüle, who are coordinating the emergency relief, she visited many places of help. “One stop of my travels was the city Lyuboml, where refugees have been living in a church building since the beginning of the war. Hundreds of people from all over the country have already found shelter here. At the moment, the roof is being repaired, and the premises are being renovated. On a Sunday, I also attend their church service – an atmosphere full of peace and hope such as this, I have never experienced before!”

Since the beginning of the war, Global Care has been operating in Ukraine to ease the hardship of the people. One place of help is Savodskoye. Thanks to valuable donations, families receive relief supplies such as food or hygiene items, which they urgently need. Other than that, it is important that they are able to provide for themselves independently of the energy system in case of power outages. Psychosocial help is a focus of the work as well. Recently, a club for young people was set up in the existing rooms. In the outdoor area, new play facilities have been created for children. “Joint activities bring joy and moments of exuberance, which are very important”, explains Dima, a local staff member. “This is why we organized a ping pong tournament and a camp during summer!” At the beginning of the new school year, students in three schools received colorful paper and cardboard, a drawing book, coloring paints, playdough, pencils and pens.
04.07.2023
After the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in Ukraine on June 6th, the town of Zavodskoy turned to our partner organisation “Kind Hearts Movement” and asked for help. Immediately, we provided three boats, motor pumps with accessories, 12 diving suits and spades for the rescue workers in the region of Kherson. In the meantime, the city administration’s gratitude has reached us: “We want to express our heartfelt thanks. Thank you for buying tools and relief goods to evacuate the residents as well as the humanitarian support for the affected people.”
28.06.2023
A few days ago, a children’s party for girls and boys with disabilities was celebrated in Poltava, a location of operation of Global-Care. The church, which has been a shelter for refugees since the beginning of the war, offered their facilities and supported the party by providing many helpers.
27.06.2023
The constant worry about family members and friends in Ukraine, the new surroundings and the uncertain future is a great burden for women and children who fled to Moldova. Living in the refugee facilities, in which many families are housed, is a challenge. School lessons sometimes take place online in very small living quarters. Some students have to share laptops or phones. For children and teenagers, their time in Moldova is an important part of their lives.
To support Ukrainian families, different activities are offered to improve the quality of life, promote physical health and make integration into Moldova easier.
A part of the help is the implementation of 7-10 day summer camps. Many families cannot afford the participation in the summer camps or holiday activities. By spending time together with playing, olympics, read-aloud activities, quizzes, sports, crafts, and painting they recharge, experience togetherness, and realize they are not alone.
19.06.2023
As part of our Ukraine emergency assistance, people are regularly provided with food, hygiene products and relief goods in the project locations Lyuboml, Zavodske, Poltava, Dnipro, and Tyachiv. A few days ago, a children’s event for 40 girls and boys took place at the “Children of Ukraine” center in Dnipro. Sports games, workshops, and small presents brought them great joy in difficult times like these.
13.06.2023
The destruction of the Kakhovka dam in Ukraine on June 6, 2023 caused a far-reaching devastation and great suffering among people. In cooperation with the local partner organisation “Kind Hearts Movement”, emergency rescuers were provided with three boats, motor pumps with accessories, 12 diving suits and spades in the affected areas in Cherson.
12.05.2023
At the moment, Beate Tohmé is located in Ukraine where she visits Global-Care locations of operation. She reports from Poltava: “Tonight, sirens were wailing shortly after midnight, and the electricity was gone. Thank God that there were no further incidents. This way, the well-prepared distribution of food and hygiene products to 70 families with children with disabilities was able to take place in the morning. Already long before, children bustled with their mothers or fathers on the slide and other playground equipment, which were made possible thanks to valuable donations. A colorful program on the theme “We are all different, but everyone has something unique” with movement songs, a short film and encouraging words to the parents and the children hopefully help them to accept and handle the management of everyday challenges.”
09.05.2023
During the onward journey through Borodyanka, Butscha and Kiev to Zavodskoy, the destruction of the war becomes visible for Global-Care’s managing director Beate Tohmé – now and again interrupted by buildings that remained intact. During a visit to a school, the team meets students who have received a Christmas package from the “An Dich gedacht” (“Thought of you”) campaign which they were really happy about.
08.05.2023
Global-Care’s managing director Beate Tohmé reports: “We have been in Ukraine for one day now. Today, we visited families in Luboml. 21 refugees have found shelter in the local church building. Olga is thankful that she and her two children found refuge here, even though she misses her home in Bakhmut. Her husband is still there to protect their house. “Before, life was beautiful. But the factory I used to work in is long closed. It is a little comforting because I don’t have any work here either. She made the room, which used to be for the youth group, a little more comfortable with pictures and rugs. Her daughter Veronika has already made some friends and runs around the house laughing. The families help and support each other. In fear of more attacks on May 9, Russian Victory Day, school is canceled nationwide. Picture in front of the entrance of the church building Luboml with the refugees, who found shelter here.

Even before the beginning of the war, Ukraine has been one of Global-Care’s countries of operation. Since February 24 2022, emergency relief for people affected by the impact of the war has been an integral part of our work. Yesterday, Global-Care’s managing director traveled to Ukraine to visit the different locations (from the left: Ukrainian unit manager Walentin Schüle, Beate Tohmé, Irma Schüle, Pastor André Demyanchuk from Ljuboml and Pastor Daniel Kihm from Three Worlds).17.04.2023 Moldova
In the Global-Care countries of operation Ukraine and Moldova, Easter was celebrated yesterday among orthodox Christians. Women and their children, who fled from Ukraine to Moldova and received help there, took part in a day trip to the monastery Călărășeuca and enjoyed a beautiful day. The children were excited about playing games together and eating colorful eggs as well as potatoes and sausages by the fire. Project manager Kristina tells us: “On the way to the monastery we drove along the river Nistru, which is close to the border. We saw companies, houses and even people on the Ukrainian side – it was a very emotional moment.”14.03.2023
Again and again people are evacuated when danger is too great as part of the emergency in Ukraine. This family comes from the Donetsk region. Please help so we can help!
08.03.2023
Many Ukrainian women have fled to Moldova. They live together with their children (and without their husbands most of the time) in refugee camps and need support. Two to three times a week sports classes are offered which are led by a Ukrainian woman. Today, on International Women’s Day, 400 women can enjoy a pampering program and roses. “Since the beginning of the war, especially women suffer from fear of violence, hunger, the loss of loved ones and a future of uncertainty. Traditionally, they receive flowers from their husbands on International Women’s Day. But because most of the men are fighting in the war, we want to give them something to smile about. It is important that they recharge their souls and that they strengthen their resilience and well-being” says project manager Kristina.
04.02.2023 One Year of War in Ukraine
One year of war. It can hardly be put into words what kind of suffering the civil population has been enduring since February 24, 2022. From the beginning, Global Care stood in solidarity with the children and their families and provides emergency relief.
In Ukraine, 450 volunteers were working non-stop to ease the adversity of people. In cooperation with local churches shelters were established, refugees were provided with warm meals and clothing, counseling was given, people were evacuated from emergency situations, camps for children were made possible, relief transports and were organized and food and hygiene products were distributed in war zones. In total, children and families in need received 693 tons of relief goods. In Germany as well as Moldova, which took in the most refugees out of all countries relative to their population, relief measures were taken.
The war keeps the world on edge – the help continues!
Every month, 500 people are provided with food and hygiene products at the five locations Ljuboml, Savodske, Poltava, Tyashiv and Dnipro. With the distribution we reach (large) families, seniors as well as adults and children with a disability. Other relief goods such as power generators, batteries, power banks, mobile gas stoves, firewood or fuel donations are also provided for those in need.
150 children receive psychosocial counseling as part of the emergency relief. Together with a psychologist they talk about their experiences, take part in day trips, celebrate parties and receive help to process. In Moldova, help is expanded as well. It is important that the women and children who live there in refugee shelters – most of the time without the father – are strengthened and experience rays of hope. Two to three times a week sports courses are offered which are led by a Ukrainian woman. For International Women’s Day on March 8, there will be a pampering program and flowers for 400 refugee women. “Especially women suffer from fear of violence and hunger, loss of loved ones and an uncertain future since the beginning of the war. Traditionally, women receive flowers from their husbands on international Women’s Day. But because most of the men are fighting in the war, it is important to give them a moment of joy. It is important that they recharge, strengthen their resilience and well-being”, says project manager Kristina.
09.01.2023
The first two presents of the campaign “An Dich gedacht – Weihnachtspäckchen für Kinder in der Ukraine” (english: Thought of you – Christmas gifts for children in Ukraine) went to the brothers Andrei and Roman. Since the beginning of the war, their father has been deployed as a soldier; their grandfather passed away last week. Both of them were really happy about the presents.
03.01.2023
This morning, numerous packages made their way to children in Ukraine. Pastor Andrej from Luboml, who coordinates the help on-site, loaded them and is now on his way back. The packages of the campaign “An Dich gedacht” (english: Thought of you) will reach the boys and girls on time for Christmas, which is celebrated on January 7 in Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who took part in giving a moment of joy and hope.
16.12.2022
Yesterday GLOBAL CARE project manager Gina Roßberg arrived well in the Republic of Moldova. In cooperation with the local partner organization “Protectie Infinita”, GLOBAL CARE is working on site for Ukrainian and Moldovan children. For the school year 2022/2023, girls and boys have received school backpacks, gym bags, writing and drawing materials as well as exercise books. Furthermore, Christmas parties are organized for Ukrainian children who have fled. Gina Roßberg reports: “About 200 children and their parents were at the party. It was colorful, it was loud and the joy was great! Traditional dances, a play and singing filled the room. One mother hugged me goodbye and never let go of my hands. She was so happy and grateful that she didn’t have to think about the war and worries for at least two hours.”
08.12.2022
In Hannover as well many people packed lovely packages. Soon they will start their journey to Ukraine. Our campaign „ An Dich gedacht – Weihnachtspäckchen für die Kinder in der Ukraine“ (We are thinking of you- Christmas packages for the Ukrainian children) has been extended to the 14th of December.
07.12.2022
More and more packages within the context of our campaign „ An Dich gedacht – Weihnachtspäckchen für die Kinder in der Ukraine“ (We are thinking of you- Christmas packages for the Ukrainian children) arrive at our office. Yesterday some members of our board of trustees brought many packages from Brunswick to Fritzlar. Ukrainian boys and girls whose families have fled their home cities due to the war in Ukraine will receive the packages that had been packed with great affection and love when they celebrate Christmas on January the 7th referring to the Julian Calendar.

As a partner of the German relief coaltion „Aktion Deutschland Hilft“ we were able to provide help together with for more aid organizations! Based on our Ukrainian emergency relief two fire engines arrived at Kharkiv today. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kharkiv, expresses his thanks in the video. We hope that the two fire engines may help the people of Kharkiv.
Thank you for every donation- it has big impacts!
25.11.2022
Many Ukrainian cities suffer an electricity outage, the numerous effects are scarcely imaginable. Pastor Walentin Schüle explains: „For the parish rooms in Poltava, Ljuboml and Zawodoskoje that are shelter to the refugees, an electricity outage means that there is no more heating – the pumps run by electricity. When the emergency aid arrived yesterday everybody gave a sigh of relief! With the help of the generators there is electricity thoughout the day. At the same time they can charge batteries which can provide them with electricity during the night. The gas-fired furnaces will be given to needy families.“
20.10.2022
The Republic of Moldova is amongst the poorest countries of Europe and as a result of the war in Ukraine, the country has registered more than 591.000 of refugees, which is more than any other country has taken in compared to the population.
More than 90.500 Ukrainians have stayed in the Republic of Moldova of whom 50 are children.
So far Ukrainian pupils had been joining online classes from Ukrainian schools but since September, they have joined the Moldovan schools in ordert o facilitate their integration. Nevertheless, it is a huge challenge fort he Moldovan school system to equip them with school supplies and everything they need. Many Moldavan families with low income from the Balti region are barely able to afford the necessary expenses for their own children.
With the help of a new GLOBAL CARE relief project that has been iniciated in cooperation with the local partner „Protectie Infinita“, 400 Ukrainian and Moldovan children are provided with the necessary school supplies fort he ongoing academic year of 2022/2023: bagpacks, gym bags, school and painting materials as well as excercise books and booklets.
In a mutual effort we are helping and taking care of the target that Ukrainian and Moldovan children are able to attend school fully equipped.
Yourhelp matters:
80 EUR for a schoolbag and a gym bag
35 EUR for school and painting materials, exercise books and booklets

To process the experiences and to forget the worries of the war for a moment – this is what 272 boys and girls were able to do in Ukraine. Childen’s camps in Tyatchiv and Ljuboml gave the children and parents the recovery and help that they needed, and which they were immensely grateful for. The children were able to play carefree and their eyes were bright. Their parents were happy to gather some strength for the coming times. There are also plans for fun Children’s camps in Poltava and Sawodkoje, which give room for conversation and new hope.
01.09.2022
The church building in Ljuboml in Ukraine is a permanent shelter for 40 refugees. The windows and emergency exit of the building are being renewed, so the people living there do not have to freeze during the winter and the heating cost will be kept small. The windows have already arrived and will be installed soon.
24.08.2022
Since the 24th of February, half a year has passed and with that six months of war, whose destructive impact still demands our joined help. Since the start of the war, Global-Care has been actively helping. Thanks to your support, an initial reception facility was built and furnished, refugees were provided with warm meals, clothing and counseling, people were evacuated from emergency situations, summer camps for children were made possible, relief transports were organized and food and hygiene articles were distributed in war zones.
Now, our help goes into a new phase – in the midst of the summer heat, the utmost priority lies in providing help for the winter months. We are helping now so that children and families do not have to freeze later!
Project coordinator Stepan from Poltava reports: “We have to look for wood now so that the shelters are sufficiently heated during the winter. So far, we stocked up the woodstocks in Poltava and Sawodskoje. There is a permanent shelter for 40 refugees in the church building in Ljuboml. But there is a draft coming from the unsealed windows and the door cannot keep in the warmth. The windows and the emergency exit door will be renewed so the people will not freeze during the upcoming winter and the heating cost will be kept small. It is also important to think about providing health care for the people. Pastor Andrej is very grateful for all of the medicine and the bandage material, which he picked up from the Global-Care offices during a trip to Germany and which have already been distributed in Ukraine.
The people still need our solidarity and our help. Thank you for taking action and for every donation.
20.08.2022
Pastor Andrej from Ljuboml in Ukraine is very grateful for all of the medicine and the bandage material, which he picked up from the Global-Care offices during a trip to Germany and which have already been distributed in Ukraine. Many thanks for these donations in kind, which were provided by the St. Martin pharmacy, the Eder pharmacy, and the doctor’s office of Dr. med. Markus Balli in Fritzlar.
11.08.2022 – Ljuboml
Wind coming through windows that are not airtight anymore, the door cannot keep in the warmth… the church building is a permanent shelter for 40 refugees. The windows and emergency exit door will be renewed so the people will not freeze during the winter and the heating cost will not be too expensive. Global Care supports the renovations as part of our emergency relief in Ukraine.
31.07.2022 – Summer, Sun, Fun – Summer Camp for 100 Children in Ukraine
First, two years of Covid, then the war began. It has been a long time since children were able to just play and have fun. This is why we gave 25 children the possibility to attend a summer camp near Ljuboml. Together with caring camp counselors, the children had fun playing and crafting, as well as listening to exciting stories from the bible, discovering the surrounding nature and swimming in the nearby lake.
11.07.2022
More than 500 refugees have received immediate help in Sawodskoje so far. From thursday on, large families, single mothers and people with disabilities will arrive and receive help. Furthermore, helpers and volunteers will make their way to other refugees who found shelter further away – tomorrow they will distribute relief packages in the villages Piski and Bodakwa.
07.06.2022 – Poltava
A proper meal, a hot shower, conversation and a good night’s sleep – members of the church in Poltava make caring for Ukrainian refugees their most important priority every day. The refugees stay for two to three days and then contininue their journey. The sewage system is in desperate need of an exstenstion. So far, only a septic tank is used, which is not enough for the number of people seeking shelter.
02.06.2022
This is Linda. She cares for her mother who is very weak. In addition to this, her son lost his job because of the war. He used to work for the railways. The family receives support in the form of food and medication.
01.06.2022
Today, 50 children who are temporarily living in Sawodske, in the central Ukrainian oblast Poltava, received gifts, which they accepted with happy and grateful eyes. In the midst of the gloomy situation of their country, they had a bright moment of happiness.
23.05.2022
Ukrainian project leader Walentin says: “It is a miracle that we are able to find shelters for refugee families despite the immense housing shortage. Even relief goods such as beds, strollers, refrigerators or kettles are great blessings when they are available at the right time!”
20.05.2022
Project leader and pastor Stepan has been helping since the start of the war and coordinates the emergency assistance in the surroundings of Poltava: “The war is a horrible calamity that no one was prepared for. At the same time, God does good during this catastrophe: a roof over our heads, food on the table and the chance to keep on living – the refugees are beyond thankful for that.”
06.05.2022
It is a great joy that project leader Andrej from Ljuboml returned safely from his trip to Slowyansk and the evacuation was successful.
02.05.2022
GLOBAL CARE supported the setup of an initial reception center in the Republic of Moldova for Ukrainian refugees. Co-worker Rolf Schild paid a visit to the center at the end of April: “There are 1,000 beds available for Ukrainian refugees. A soccer field and a tent for children give room for games, and playing together, as well as space for adults to share their experience with each other. The center is one of several shelter points in proximity to the city Bălți, which are managed by local authorities such as the fire department. The assignment of the shelters is organized by coordination manager Sergiu. Him and his team assign a shelter depending on the direction that the refugees travel in. The created space offers temporary protection and shelter for as long as individually needed. The center also provides medical help, psychological support and help to find a permanent settlement for the Ukrainian refugees. During my trip I made the acquaintance with Jelena from Kiev. She is glad to be finally safe now, but she worries about her boyfriend, who is in the Ukrainian military.”
29.04.2022
Project leader Andrej faces a dangerous operation. Today he makes his way along the frontline to 3 sisters who must be evacuated immediately.
28.04.2022
We are impressed by the solidarity and helpfulness Ukrainian people express towards each other during these frightening times. A family living in the suburbs of Poltava decided to flee the country. But they offered their house to another family who also left their home but stayed in Ukraine. The temporary residents look after the pets and the house and even started to plant some tomatoes and potatoes in the garden – ready to harvest when they can return back home.
27.04.2022
Ukrainian children, who were not able to attend their school classes because they fled the country with their families, are beyond excited that they can now attend online. 15 discontinued laptops were made ready with new hard drives and operating systems by volunteers. This act of kindness has a great impact as now the children are more likely to complete this school year successfully.
22.04.2022 – Initial Reception Center Republic of Moldova
1,000 beds are now available for Ukrainian refugees after the setup of the initial reception center in the Republic of Moldova. GLOBAL CARE co-worker Rolf Schild is going to visit the center at the beginning of next week.
21.04.2022 – Tyachiv
A heating boiler was repaired in a shelter for Ukrainian refugees. Furthermore, a pumping station was installed to ensure the supply of water.
18.04.2022 – Poltava
The church in Poltava offers their facilities to Ukrainian refugees as a temporary accomodation. There, the people can enjoy warm meals, take showers and get some sleep. Supplied with food and hygiene items they have regained their energy and are able to continue their travels. A family father reports how they were forced to spend a week in their basement before they could flee. A young girl was traveling on her own with a toddler, and they found refuge in the church. Both of them were transported safely to Poland by the team in Poltava.
The demand for help is grave in Poltava. To be able to continue to help Ukrainian refugees it is important that the costs of the shopping and fuel can be covered, as well as the costs for electricity, gas, water, internet and firewood.
13.04.2022 – Initial reception center for Ukrainian refugees
The construction of the initial reception facility has been completed. A total of 1,000 sleeping places are available for refugees from Ukraine. In the children’s tent there are cuddly toys for the children and also seating for the mothers. Hopefully, everyone will experience nice untroubled moments here and can come to rest.
13.04.2022 – Michailowka
26 people from russian-occupied Michailowka have fled to western Ukraine, including 17 needy children who are supported by our children’s charity through sponsorship.
12.04.2022 – Poltava
In order to care for the expected influx of refugees, another 20 overnight places were created in the church building this week in addition to the existing 20. In addition to mattresses and blankets, one of the items on the shopping list was the purchase of slippers, because it’s quite clear that everyone takes off their shoes when entering a building.
A team of 12 helpers is ready to care for the refugees. One man arrived in Poltava exhausted and starving after 10 days of walking. The first piece of bread, which was quickly handed to him tasted so well. Freshly strengthened, showered and rested, he was able to set off again with clean clothes.
10.04.2022 – Germany
After the government’s call to flee, many people are fleeing from the east of Ukraine. In recent days, many people from Poltava have fled to other regions in Ukraine or abroad. We are happy that this week some families arrived safely in Germany and accommodation could be organized for them.
07.04.2022 – Poltawa und Michailowka
A major attack by Russia is expected in eastern Ukraine. The government has officially called for people to flee. Many people who are cared for within the framework of our aid project in Poltava are already on their way to Poland or Germany. Staff members remain on site to continue providing humanitarian aid.
In Mikhailovka, which is occupied by the Russian army, all men are currently being registered. It is feared that they will be drafted to fight (possibly against their own fellow men).
05.04.2022 – Borodyanka
They are pictures of destruction that we received from the small town Borodyanka, not far from Butscha. After the retreat of Russian troops the place lies in ruins. Project leader Andrej and his team help by distributing food and other necessities. The misery of the people leaves us speechless – we can only help, help without stopping! Thank you for each and every donation, which makes our help possible!
28.03.2022 – Poltava
Pastor Stepan from Poltava writes about the help that they do: “We converted our church building so that we were able to make it available for refugees. Every day the “church kitchen” provides lunch for everyone. We also equip other emergency accommodations with necessities. Every now and again we have to coordinate humanitarian aid for people in need in Kharkiv and Mariupol from here and have to find new ways to enable provision at the borders. It is good that we are a versatile network and that we help each other.
25.03.2022 – Initial reception center for Ukrainian refugees
We are delighted that our volunteer Daniel S. returned home safely from the Republic of Moldova. He willingly supported the setup of an initial reception center for refugees from Ukraine. Daniel writes: “The cooperation with AHRche e.V. worked really well. The first three days we had to wait for the trucks to arrive, so we used that time to prepare the field by cutting grass and planning the exact installation of the tents, power supply, and sanitary facilities on the computer. As soon as the first truck arrived, we began setting up. With roughly 70 people, supported by the local authorities and the later responsible persons, the initial reception center was able to be built within four days. The biggest challenge for me was enabling the communication between the Moldavian and German team with my rudimentary Russian skills.” Thank you dear Daniel for your dedicated service! We treasure your support and are very proud of you! The expansion of capacity from 300 to 1000 spaces will be continued by the local authorities. The needed material was sent by our partner organization Die AHRche e.V. and arrived in the Republic of Moldova this week.

As part of our emergency aid in Ukraine, refugees from Kharkiv were provided for at the train station in Poltava. They received stew and food packages with rice, beans and pasta. 19.03.2022 – Ljuboml
Daily we receive new updates about the situation in Ukraine. Andrej from Ljuboml writes: “Three people from our group are now on their way to Kyiv, Borodyanka und Vasylkiv. Thank you so much for your support, with which we are able to help. We distribute food packages, clothes, diapers and water. We also evacuate people if needed. Just recently we brought 25 Ukrainian people to safety – the firing was too dangerous!”
16.03.2022 – Poltava
In Poltava, in central Ukraine, the church community organizes rooms and flats for refugees to stay in. The local pastor says about the supply situation: “There is still food in grocery stores and petrol at the gas stations, but the prices increase daily, sometimes 30 cents per liter.
100km away from Poltava, grave fights take place, anti-aircraft missiles are launched daily, the nights are filled with air raid warnings until midnight and can be heard 3-5 times during the day as well. No fights have taken place in Poltava itself so far. There are roughly 60 church members in Poltava still; 35 fled. Today, we will go back to the train station and distribute food. More and more refugees are arriving, and we expect more people in our church building who are in need of shelter and further help.”
15.03.2022 – Initial reception center for Ukrainian refugees will be completed shortly
With the help of 70 hardworking volunteers, the initial reception center for Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova is almost ready for use. The German team sent by our partner organization “Die AHRche e.V. – Verein für Katastrophenhilfe und Wiederaufbau” will complete their work on Thursday. The capacity of the center is already extended to give shelter to 1000 people. After the team’s departure, local organizations such as the regional fire department are to supervise the facility. They offer medical care, psychological support, and help find a permanent place to stay and get in contact with relatives.
15.03.2022 – Project Mikhailovka
Our head of unit for Ukraine writes: „the children of the Mikhailovka project are okay so far. The church helps anywhere they are needed. The area is occupied by Russians, but the people are allowed to move freely within the place. For now, it is still possible to get a few things in stores. The families express their gratitude towards GLOBAL CARE for their financial support, which is an immense relief.
In Mikhailovka, the south of Ukraine, Kinderhilfswerk Global-Care has been working in cooperation with our partner organisation „Church of God’s Family“ for many years now, and together we currently look after 30 sponsor children and their families.
14.03.2022 – Initial reception center for Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova
Our volunteer Daniel S. is now in the Republic of Moldova, helping with the setup of the initial reception center which we partly sponsor. The loaded trucks arrived on Sunday and the team began their work right away. The regional fire department provided five more tents. They are set up along with portable kitchens and light aggregators by both teams. The last two trucks with additional material arrived yesterday.
Daniel S. reports: „We just finished a 13-hour shift. Along with my main task of translating from German into Russian and vice versa, I was also able to pitch in. The camp slowly starts to take shape, so more than 300 people can find shelter here soon.“
09.03.2022
In addition to our ongoing emergency assistance in Ukraine, GLOBAL CARE also supports the setup of an initial reception center for Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova. Today, the team of our partner organization Die AHrche e.V. – Verein für Katastrophenhilfe und Wiederaufbau is on its way to the project location, delivering camping beds for more than 300 people, sanitary facilities, portable kitchens and more. Our volunteer Daniel S. joined the team and supports them in their work. After the setup, the reception center is supervised by local organizations such as the regional fire department. They offer medical care, psychological support, assistance in finding a permanent residence and contacting family and relatives. The goal is a safe refuge after a long escape from war and destruction for the people affected.
08.03.2022
We receive new information from Ukraine every day. Many families were evacuated, shelter, food, petrol, and hygiene products are being organized. Our donations are received and gratefully acknowledged.
More than 200 tons of relief goods were successfully transported across the border between Poland and the West of Ukraine. On the way back refugees are taken to Poland. In Liuboml, the relief goods are distributed to other places under extremely dangerous conditions. During the last trip, the cars were shot at and one of the helpers was severely injured. The others were able to bring him to a hospital with another car, where he is treated and not in a critical condition anymore. Walentin Schüle, our head of unit for Ukraine reports: “This situation is unimaginable for all people, helpers and refugees, but the prayers, solidarity and help we receive from Germany gives them hope. They are grateful for every help!”
As pastor Wassili Spyridonow said yesterday morning: “God will fill in everything we lack.”
People from the contested city Kharkiv find shelter in the municipal hall in Poltava and receive support for the continuation of their journey. To be able to provide people in Ukraine with food and petrol for their escape, donations in cash are especially important because it helps where it is needed the most. The church in Poltava continues to send help to Kharkiv. The youth group of the church organizes meals, NFIs and water for refugees at the train station. They are serving 130 people.
25.02.2022
We as Kinderhilfswerk Global-Care have been working in cooperation with our local partner “Church of God’s Family” for several years now. Together, we care for more than 100 children and their families in need. Some of them live in the disputed territories, and the concern for their wellbeing is great. Families have already been evacuated, among them Pastor Wassili Spyryodonow, together with his wife and children. He reported how they fled under a hail of bombs and how they were surrounded by lightning caused by grenades. 25 women with children were evacuated from a church in the west of Ukraine and are now in Poland. They are all on their own and desperately need our help. More evacuations are planned.
